A Drop of Life.. Nour Foundation’s Blood Donation Campaign for Thalassemia Patients

“A Drop of Life”, Nour Foundation for Relief and Development’s ongoing blood donation campaign for thalassemia patients, continues in Al Mowasat Hospital, Blood Donation Center. This phase of the campaign, entitled “1= 4″, was organized to take place between April 11th, and May 8th, the International Day of Thalassemia.

Moustafa Abou Al Jadayel, the Volunteer Officer, said, ” The new slogan of our campaign A Drop of Life, 1= 4, means that each donor helps 4 different thalassemia patients.”

Regarding the question, “How can people participate in the blood donation campaign?”, he said, ” You have to register your name by visiting one of Nour Centers in Al Zahira, Al Hussainieh, or Sehnaya. Once the names are ready, a list is sent to the Blood Donation Center.”

It is worth mentioning that A Drop of Life Blood Donation Campaign for Thalassemia Patients has been on-going since 2015. It is also important to know that thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anemia. A person with thalassemia minor has a 25%(1 in 4) chance of having a baby with thalassemia major if his/her mate also has thalassemia minor. If both parents carry thalassemia minor, their children may have thalassemia minor, or they may have completely normal blood, or they may have thalassemia major.
